Endorse knowledge: Each one of us is aware of it but how to find out the perfect way to encourage it? Guide the players to make a choice on their own and if they make wrong choices, let go. This way, you’ll not only allow the kids to enjoy themselves but also help them get imaginative.
Give names to all teams: Have the players divided into teams in order to organize the events in a better way. Also it is a great idea to give names to the teams as this inculcates a sense of association.
Evaluate failures and success: Define the standards against which the performance would be measured to coach youth soccer. One of the yardsticks could be an observation of whether the kids are having fun in training sessions. Make out if they really enjoy the game or play considering it as just another task. Are they effectively picking up techniques of controlling, dribbling, and passing the ball?
Acknowledge their hard work: The players remain motivated by way of consistent and fair recognition. However, the rewards don’t need to be huge. For example a further 30 minutes rest or wrapping up the day’s job early for team performing best. And avoid giving rewards for individual performance. This is because soccer is a sport where some players will always outperform others. It is therefore better to acknowledge the team effort.
Handling bad conduct: When teaching soccer, it can be terrible for team’s success if the poor conduct of players is not taken care of over time. Like never ignore a player who fails to reach in time for practice sessions. Have him perform a simple act as a punishment to make others aware of such mistakes.
Likewise, the parents who have the habit of getting in the way of team’s events must also be taken care of. Control it in time and notify everyone about it. You are the coach and you will take decisions. Still, it’s important for the team to have parent’s contribution to some extent.
Become the leader: Because you are seen as a mentor, it is possible that everything you do is replicated by the players. So you better mend your ways. Make sure you behave properly with everyone including your team-mates, rival team, and fellow coaches. Get to the sports ground for practice sessions prior to the players.
