It’s like clockwork when you have a soccer field diagram before you and you are planning to teach the kids soccer formations and positions. When the kids are younger, say between 4 to 6 years in age, it is better to make them play in small sided soccer, like a 3 v 3, or a 4 v 4 without goalkeepers.
With the kids growing up, they can move to a 5 v 5 together with a goalkeeper. This has tremendous benefits. As a result, kids have a lot of fun, make maximum contacts with the ball, and learn the ideas better.
This is an age where the kids are only learning to pass the ball and control it. Also start training them on different soccer positions and formations. It’s the right time to allot to the players, roles of defenders and forwards. You must also make it a point that they reach their positions to the greatest degree.
At some point in time, the number of players will increase along with the size of the field. Creating formations then would become a tad complicated. However, you must still allot the players different positions and make sure that they are honestly working on playing from those positions.
As soon as you decide the formations, it is time to discuss these with the players. Explain to the players why one player is preferred for a specific position in comparison to another and also the theory that follows it. For this reason, a soccer field diagram is very handy. The kids get to learn fast by looking at visual demonstrations. Also, there are players who learn better on field by way of observing to while performing drills or by going through the written text.
A few recommendations or soccer tactics are an integral part of every position on the field, for example, positions of defenders, midfielders, and forwards. These descriptions are apt for a 2-2-2 formation in a 7 v 7 game. These commands are generic in nature but you can change them to suit your team.
As an illustration, you may choose to engage 3 midfielders instead of 2. You may require your center midfielder to react aggressively on offence or you may prefer that he marks the other teams best midfielder on defense. You may like your wing defenders to take all throw-ins. There can a lot of changes.
Apart from the diagram, it is nice to put your thoughts on a piece of paper. This gives the kids an opportunity to go through the instructions at their own pace which improves their understanding a great deal. The parents can also glance through it and get to know your views and goals for the team and individual players.
To teach soccer positions, apply extensive use of field diagrams irrespective of what you’ve selected to in addition. It is a great tool in your hands that can save you a lot of time and energy in explaining formations.
